JOSE's YEAR AGAIN?

Manchester United welcome Everton to the Theatre Of Dreams this afternoon for what promises to be a pretty exciting encounter.  Reunions on both sides: Wayne Rooney against his former employers, and Romelu Lukaku v his old teammates. For Jose, a chance to go level with Pep at the top (or probably go top given a big win). Question is: Could he actually pull off another title? Well he's rubbished those second-season claims recently, but we know what he's all about.

Statisticians will tell you the Happy One always likes a second chance. In the last twelve years, he's won all his league trophies in his second year. Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and then Chelsea again in 2015. It's apparent that he uses the first year to get used to the surroundings, and then blitzes past everyone in the second year. Last time he won a league title, Chelsea lost only twice that season (Tottenham away, and a dead rubber in May at West Brom). Has he got the personnel here though to give Old Trafford that elusive crown?

You bet he does. Summer signings Romelu Lukaku, Vic Lindelof and Nemanja Matic already helping to solve the personnel problem he faced last year. The most glaring of the solutions is the one big Serb Matic provides. The title winning midfielder has such prowess in commanding his midfield area, and Ed Woodward's delighted because that frees up space for then world-record buy in Paul Pogba. The Frenchman hit six in all competitions (with a similar amount of assists) last season and was usually criticized for not stepping up to the plate. This term, he's looked more like the Pogba Gary Neville would probably lose his voice over. Two already, with four assists. Bookies won't tell he's making double figures for both strikes and set-ups in the Premier League this season. In the past, The Special One relied on certain players to lift his team up, when probably there was no way out. The Dabbing Frenchman could be one of those players. Could hit one on either foot, has a raking pass too, and can't be bullied off the ball easily. He's got the potential to be called a world class talent. So yeah, Big Serb Nemanja's such a big steal for the Mancunians. How about Lukaku? Well, we know how good he is. Five in six in all competitions a testament of that. Pace, power, aerial ability: he has got the lot. "Oi, Wazza, you think he'll beat your record?" Provided he gets the service from the supporting cast behind him (which Mkhi's doing already). The Armenian has set up three of his strikes. Jose can't help but see flashes of Drogba and Costa, whenever he sees the Belgian. Hey, he's got some forward on his hand. Title-winning striker? We all just have to wait and see. That's all we can do.

"Calm down, I've got this."
As it's turned out over more than a decade, in May he always receives a winners' medal on his home turf. The most dominant of wins in 2012 where his Real Madrid side won the League with a whooping 109 goals. They also blitzed past Pep's Barca with 9 points. It's no wonder Man United were linked with the Real Madrid winger. And guess who was Barcelona's head coach? Meteorologists would always tell you lightning has a second strike.

EPL 18/19: DERBY DAY IN MANCHESTER

We’re not scared anymore. A rather defiant Pep Guardiola hinted in his press conference yesterday, as City prepare for their game in hand v Oleball’s Man United. Who will be the King Of The North?       Manchester United got thumped by a spirited Everton side this past Sunday. If that’s anything to go by, then it’s probably curtains for Sir Alex’s grandkids. Positive is, Old Trafford can be a daunting presence when needed. You just never know with this club. Ney still having mares of that night in the French capital. Last time out, goals from Kun Agüero and Ilkay Gündogan k illed off any comeback. Can’t be the same again yeah?  “Ole’s at the wheel yeah?” (c)bleacherreport.com      City fans have been chanting the Campeones anthem already, after Saturday’s win v Pochettino. No VAR sadly then. Victory the maximum, or it could just slip. Yes, that’s the word. Skye Sports confirm a certain Scouse just signed as a fr...

UCL 18/19: IT’S AN ALL-ENGLISH AFFAIR

      (c) https://www.teamtalk.com/  Cue Mo Salah.        Whew. Taken a breath yeah? This is why we love the game. It’s never over till AY says so, or the lady. What a 48 hours it’s been. This season has shown us one thing on different occasions: fortune really does favour the brave.     Brave? Or a case of the never-disappearing bottle. Barcelona threw away a 3-0 lead, again. Jürgen Klopp having another Istanbul-like night. Borussia Dortmund suffered the same in 2016. What makes this more special, is the fact that they did it without Mo’ Salah and Firmino. When you’re backed up against the wall, it seems that’s when true character is shown. Hats off for Liverpool, and to Jürgentainment Klopp. Who’d have thought too much passion would be a good thing?  (c) https://www.businessinsider.com/     Mauricio Pochettino did not sign a single player in the last two transfer windows, didn’t have the Kane Man, an...

UCL 18/19 SEMIFINAL REVIEW: FIRST LEG

Europe’s elite club competition served up another dose of rich entertainment, not for everyone though. It seems you shouldn’t disrespect an almost-hallowed football ground.      Giant-killing Ajax Amsterdam added another victim to the list, with a deserved 1-0 away win at Spurs’ new ground. Donny Van De Beek afforded far too much time in the 18-yard as Hugo Lloris was left exposed. Spurs huffed and puffed as the game came to a close, with Dele Alli only forcing a save from André Onana. Special mention to Jan Vertonghen who recovered after taking a whack which left him bloodied for a bit. Pochettino still has hope as Son Heung-Min would be back from suspension. Ajax looked rattled for a bit as Sissoko and co chased and harried.       Fear it, dread it, run from it: Destiny still arrives. Did you really think Leo Messi was going to let this one slip?      Liverpool got taught the lesson of the famous smash and grab: Liverpool pl...
