THE PEP BLITZ'S ON ALRIGHT!

The genius that is Pep Guardiola. ((c)dailymail.co.uk)    Manchester City thumped Crystal Palace 5-0 yesterday at the Etihad, thanks to a double from Sterling, and goals from German whiz Leroy Sane, Kun Agüero, and a peach from former Aston Villa employee Fabian Delph. Top of the table, and he looks to go all the way. Are you watching, Sir Alex?      The previous campaign ended without honours for the usually successful Spanish manager. His side finished third, just ahead of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. Many claimed he wasn't ready for the fast-paced English game, some said he wasn't worth all the fuss, while his admirers warned he'll be back strongest. Yeah, we see your biceps, Senor Guardiola . Unbeaten, winning all but one against former clubmate Ronald Koeman's Everton. Goals? They've hit the 20-goal mark domestically. Talk about being ruthless. This Manchester City side have the resemblance of a pack of wolves ready to tear apart any def...

LA LIGA SANTANDER 17/18 PREVIEW: GAMEWEEK 6

A feast of Spanish top-flight football awaits viewers this gameweek. Top of the tree Barcelona looking to continue their Catalan Spree, whilst still-stunned Real Madrid look to the heavens. Real Betis having a swagger in their step as they aim to move up the table.      To start the action, Sevilla visit the Wanda Metrpolitano to face Deigo Simeone's Atletico De Madrid. Reports this week confirm the rumours that Diego Costa will be heading back to the Spanish capital. The fee was said to be around 60 million pounds. He'll be in the stands as Enrique Berizzo's Andalusians look to foil the efforts of Drake fanboy Antoine Griezmann. Much fancied Los Blancos travel to the Mendizzorrotta to face Deportivo Alaves. Zizou has called for calm given the shocker in mid-week. Madridistas would warn you of a Cristiano hat-trick today. Malaga welcome Athletic Bilbao to La Rosaleda for what promises to be a feisty one.  To end the day's excitement, Li...

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE 17/18 PREVIEW: GAMEWEEK 6

It's the start of another Premier League weekend, and if we are to judge from what's happened before, then it promises to be a heck of a weekend. Mauricio Pochettino travels to London to face the calm Slaven Bilic in a usually feisty London derby, Mou's at Saint Mary's, Jurgen Klopp looks for revenge with the foxes, and Arsenal look to carry on their good fortune. Toni Conte's got the headache of the Bet 365 stadium.     Some minutes after noon, Javier Hernandez's West Ham welcome London buddies Tottenham Hotspur to the Olympic Stadium. Last time these sides met, Spurs' title challenge ended thanks to Manuel Lanzini. The visitors? Well, it seems they'll prefer to play away from home always. They have a 100% record away. No need emphasising the barren home form. Last time out, they failed to press home their advantage against a visiting Swansea outfit. Needless to say the points can't be more crucial. And eh, Andy Carroll's in for th...

CARABAO CUP 17/18 ROUND UP

Manchester United last night hit four past a sorry Burton Albion. King Louis V's fave son Marcus Rashford at the double, with Tony Martial and Jesse Lingard also getting their names up in lights. How about Pep? His kids won at the Hawthorns v West Brom courtesy of a Leroy Sane double. Germany's new whiz has three so far in all competitions.    In London, Belgium's own Batman Michy Bathsuayi took the match ball home as Antonio Conte's Chelsea had a five-star performance against the ever-present Nottingham Forest. Arsenal edged past Doncaster thanks to speedy marksman Theodore Walcott to advance into the fourth round. Finally in Merseyside, Dominic Calvert-Lewin's two goal salvo against Sunderland made sure Everton advanced at the expense of Sunderland.    Defending champions Manchester United head to Wales to face Swansea in the fourth round, whilst Manchester City play at home ...

LA LIGA SANTANDER ROUNDUP: GAMEWEEK 5

Real Betis' Antonio Sanabria last night picked out the perfect time to at the Bernabeú: 93rd minute header. How are your meds tasting? Señor Ramos?   With that goal, the Andalusians go above the Madrid giants, and it stretches Barcelona's lead at the top to seven points already. How the tables can turn. Just about a month ago, Real looked the team to beat. It's still early days, but they've failed to win at home in La Liga this campaign. It was also the first time they've drawn a blank since Manchester City in April 2016.      Football Club Barcelona, well, still buzzing over Leo's quadruple. You don't expect them to be buzzing yeah. I mean it's Messi . They hit poor Eibar for 6, who were level for just 3 minutes when Sergi Enrich restored parity. The alien struck almost immediately, and so the hurricane came. Top of the tree, and poor old Cristiano can't even look in the mirror. They're back alright.  Enrique Berizzo's Sevilla to...

Carabao Cup 17/18 Third Round

England's league cup's here again (now the Carabao Cup), with third-round fixtures featuring all the three divisions (EPL, EFL Championship , and the EFL League One). Last year, it was Zlatan's league (he's still around): wonder if it could be Arsene's this time round.          Last night, we saw EFL sides Aston Villa and Middlesbrough have one at Villa Park. It was a night to forget for the hosts, as Garry Monk's side ran away 0-2 winners thanks to a brace from former Chelsea Patrick Bamford. which knocked out the Villains out of the Carabao Cup. . Next up, we head to the Vitality Stadium, as Bournemouth host Brighton and Hove Albion. Revenge certainly on Chris Houghton, but it wasn't the case as Josh King hit in extra time to send the Premier League newbies packing. Norwich City eased into the fourth round past Brentford at the Griffith thanks to a double from Croatian Mario Vrancic, and one from Josh Murphy. One of the upsets of the...

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE 17/18: GAMEWEEK 5 REVIEW

They lead Britain's elite (c)Metro.co.uk    Another weekend of blitzing Barclays Premier League football served itself up this gameweek. Mancunia leads the pack, Arsène wasn't beat. And hey, it turned out Spurs' midweek win was in fact a drill.       First off, we head to Mancunia. The blue side of Mancunia. Manchester City headed to a Watford side, who were in fourth place. They've played pretty well to be there too. But, against the big boys, you've hardly got a chance. The favorites hit the hosts for 6. Bouncing Kun Agüero scored a hat-trick too. Gab Jesus, Nic Otamendi, And Raheem Sterling also got on the scoresheet. Deadly, ruthless. How about their city neighbors? Well, they were reunions at Old Trafford. Wayne back in Manchester, Romelu against his old teammates. Manchester United thumped the visitors 4-0, with Rom Lukaku finding the back of the net (Antonio Valencia hit a scorcher). And oh, he did celebrate. Wonder what happened to all...

JOSE's YEAR AGAIN?

Manchester United welcome Everton to the Theatre Of Dreams this afternoon for what promises to be a pretty exciting encounter.  Reunions on both sides: Wayne Rooney against his former employers, and Romelu Lukaku v his old teammates. For Jose, a chance to go level with Pep at the top (or probably go top given a big win). Question is: Could he actually pull off another title? Well he's rubbished those second-season claims recently, but we know what he's all about.          Statisticians will tell you the Happy One always likes a second chance. In the last twelve years, he's won all his league trophies in his second year. Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and then Chelsea again in 2015. It's apparent that he uses the first year to get used to the surroundings, and then blitzes past everyone in the second year. Last time he won a league title, Chelsea lost only twice that season (Tottenh...

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE 17/18 PREVIEW: GAMEWEEK 5

We're all ready to go this week as the Barclays Premier League lights up our screens this weekend. Alvaro and Fabrepass look to soil Wenger's sheet, Wayne Rooney's back at Old Trafford, and yeah top-four Watford welcome the enigma that is Pep Guardiola. Harry Kane hoping the calendar doesn't move back to August.   First off tonight at the Vitality, Chris' Houghton's Brighton Hove and Albion have a date with the Cherries. Summer purchase Pascal Groß prays for another double as his side aim for a quick blitz up the table. On the other hand, Ed Howe's Bournemouth are on the back of two consecutive losses. New signing Jermaine Defoe still hasn't found the back of the net, and Charlie Daniels' worldie the best memory we have of them so far. They've lost every game this season, and sit at 19th (just above Crystal Palace. The A4 being prepared? I'll like that please, Frank De Boer will chide. No win seemed more vital now for the hosts.  ...

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 17/18 REVIEW: MATCHDAY 1

The glitterati club league kicked off proceedings this week, and yeah with its fair share of what you'd expect. Defending champions Los Blancos laid aside a surprisingly decent APOEL Nicosia, Buffon's finally added to Messi's list, Jurgen still grinning, and oh Chelsea scored six past a sorry Qarabag FK. Talk about a welcoming for the minnows from Azerbaijan. Pep Guardiola? Well, his side hit Feyenoord for three (John Stones scored two of the goals). Harry Kane's loving September, he had two netting strikes and Spurs have won at Wembley. This is not a drill! A certain Frenchman wasn't invited to the party: we know who.     Cup holders Real Madrid put three past Cyprus' APOEL Nicosia, with record goal scorer Cristiano Ronaldo at the double for Zizou, and ticking time-bomb defender Sergio Ramos acrobatically making it three. The Portuguese could have had a had-trick late on, only to be flagged ...

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 17/18 PREVIEW: MATCHDAY 1, DAY 2

Dear Signore Allegri, it turned out there was no motivation, as your warriors couldn't stop Lionel Messi. The Argentine alien hit two in either half for the first time in his career past a hapless Gianlugi Buffon, with Ivan Rakitic scoring in between the two goals. So José got off to a flyer last night, Al-Khelafi still shining his teeth, and a Russian mission was completed in Lisbon. You can stop shouting now, Putin.     Oh yeah, the kings play today . And guess who's back? All games round Europe tonight kick off at 7:45 pm GMT.  Defending champions Real Madrid welcome Cyprus outfit APOEL Nicosia to the Bernabeú. Weather forecasts show a really drab night for the minnows. You won't bet against a hat-trick would you? The other Group H game features Wembley-jinxed Spurs hosting Germany's Batman And Robin in Borussia Dortmund. The Londoners haven't won this season at all at home. Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng watching clips of Jamaican Usain Bolt alright. Shou...

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 17/18 PREVIEW: MATCHDAY 1, DAY 1

"........ Benzema, Ronaldo: it's there to be hit!!! And when he hits it, you know what happens!!!! A really vital second goal, for Cristiano Ronaldo And Real Madrid!"                                                                            -Martin Tyler on the Portuguese's strike v Atlètico De Madrid in the UCL 16/17 Semi-Final this past May at the Santiago Bernabeú.   Last time out, it was an all-white blitz. Yes yes, they did the impossible. And Zizou awaits the new challengers. Surely they can't do it a third time?  Club football's most illustrious competition gets underway tonight all across Europe. Zizou still is buzzing about June, Messi is not so over the moon, and Pep, well looking for inspiration from anywhere. Its Thursday Night Football (ITV Channe...

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE 17/18: GAMEWEEK 4 REVIEW

Britain's top dogs slugged it out this past weekend, and your bookies couldn't have seen what came. You're hearing me right, Jürgen's boyband were whacked 5-0 by a ruthlessManchester City at The Etihad. It's no longer a clean slate for José, and Arsène finally gets a win. The calendar hoodoo's ended for Harry, and Watford is in the top four. Not-too familiar a feeling eh, Mesut? Alvaro on head again, and Chelsea win again. Back to back champions? José's post-match interview the reflection of his frustration as his side were held by a resilient Stoke side. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's double equaled Rashford's and Lukaku's strikes. The latter took his tally to four and top of the scoring charts so far. The Blue half of Manchester? Well, they're still in the Poznan mood after rubbishing not-so lucky Sadio Manè and Liverpool. Kun Agüero, Gab Jesus, and Leroy Sanè all on target for the Citizens. 11/12 season Déjà-Vu?    Kane still cursed...

LIGA SANTANDER 17/18 PREVIEW: GAMEWEEK 3

The elite league in Spain (and in the world they would say in Espana) resumes tonight, and as you'll expect, itching to explode with its own bout of excitement. Early days, but Real Sociedad are top of the pile. Yeah you heard me right, Lionel.   First off tonight, recently promoted side Getafe go to the Butarque to face Leganes. Both sides come into this one having different fortunes: the hosts got a win away to Espanyol, while Getafe lost at home to Sevilla.   Youngster-turned saviour Marco Asensio may have to do it all again tomorrow as familiar faces Levante take a tour of the Santiago Bernabeu. Zizou hoping to be a bad tour guide for the visitors, still without his hurricane Cristiano. Antoine Griezmann returns for his side's feisty clash with Valencia at the Mestalla. Last week's pulsating game at the Bernabeu given Los Che every encouragement imaginable. Simeone looking for another win, after that comfortable sweep at Las Palmas. S...

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW 17/18: GAMEWEEK 4

Club football’s Box Office league has been given the green lights for another pulsating weekend, courtesy of Britain’s elite. Champions-elect Mou aiming to add to the 100%, Dave Wagner still punching above his weight, whilst Pep entertains Merseyside’s own rock band. Arsene? Well, he’s got to have one big bite of the Ed Howe cherry, and Toni Conte’s got fiery-chatty Vardy to think of. Banter they say, is best served hot .     First off, just after you’ve had that steamy Saturday chicken at lunch, Pep Guardiola welcomes blitzing Sadio Mane and Jürgen Klopp to Mancunia. Both sides come into this game on the back of three points in the bag, with the latter’s sending down yet another avalanche down Arsene Land. "Arsene, as tu peur" ? The remaining Saturday games (all at 4pm Nigerian time) come thick and fast, with Bournemouth visiting the Emirates Stadium. Both teams on the back of losses, the host’s needs no further aggravation. Leicester City up against...
