BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE 17/18: GAMEWEEK 3 REVIEW

As promised, the gameweek brought what you weren’t ready for ( unless you're Arsène of course ). Manchester United maintained their hundred percent record, Toni Conte’s got his mojo back, and debutant Chris Wood aimed his dagger perfectly at Wembley. Exciting? Hmmm……. We’ll have to ask Kylie Bellerin.       First off, we head to the home of Jose Mourinho, the happy one. Manchester United faced a stern test from Leicester City, and overcame courtesy of King Louis V’s favorite son Marcus Rashford. Summer signing Romelu Lukaku had a game to forget as Kasper Schmeichel did what his dad couldn’t: save a penalty at Old Trafford. That win means they’ve bagged three out of three possible, and haven’t let in a goal all season. Still early days eh? Jose would have a thing or two on that. They do, you'll have to confess, look like champions.       Still, newboys Huddersfield Town remain in second, although hurt by the po...

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE 17/18: GAMEWEEK 3 PREVIEW

Britain’s elite have been given the go-ahead to light up our screens this weekend. Jose's looking for another barnstormer, Pep’s hoping he’s not red-faced, and Arsène is always praying for a Kop salvation. Toni Conte? Well he’s got Wayne Rooney to worry about. Marcos Alonso again? “You think you’re ready for what’s coming?”      First off this Saturday lunchtime, Ed Howe and his tree of cherries welcome the enigmatic Pep Guardiola and his relatively cheap group of players. City come into this one on the back of a feisty 1-1 draw with Everton this past Monday, and without summer signing Kyle Walker. Mou and Toni would always love an upset, betslips waiting to be torn . Crystal Palace welcome recently-thrashed Swansea City, whilst newbies Brighton head to Watford on the back of two losses this season. Life’s coming at them fast alright. 2nd-placed Huddersfield Town host Southampton (Leicester chants for coach David Wagner aye), whilst ...

ASENSIO : RONALDO'S HEIR?

“Asensio… not quite the dynamic run of Ronaldo, oh but he gets the finish of Ronaldo!!!!!!!”                                                                                     -Sky Sports Spanish Super Cup commentator on Marco Asensio’s stunner v Barcelona at the Camp Nou this August.   Real Madrid are the team full of Galacticos, as they’re called; and hardly anyone gets a place in the team. Well, some humble-looking Spanish prodigy who emerged from Castilla certainly has come up with performances (and some firecrackers), and he’s given Real head coach Zizou ...

LIGA SANTANDER PREVIEW

"Cristiano Ronaldo, first touch of the game, second touch of the game: is a goal!!...... "And they're starting to attach the ribbons to the trophy." -Sky Sports Commentator Rob Palmer on Real Madrid's goal at the Rosaleda again at Malaga on the final day of the Liga Santander 16/17 season. It's here again, the greatest league in the world is here again. Spain's elite have been given permission to strut their stuff, and challenge for the country's biggest prize in football. Portugal's own version of Kal-El tasted victory last time, with his fellow extraterrestrial left to rue what might have been. Cholo and his band of warriors looking to enter pure football heaven. Gabriel Pires registered the first goal of the new season for strugglers Leganes at the expense of brave outfit Depor Alaves at the Butarque last night, while Italian Simone Zaza made Valencia's numerical strength count to the detriment of Las Palmas at Mestalla. First off ...
